Seasoned Cast Iron Cleaning & Care
Lodge cast iron cookware is the perfect kitchen tool for beginners, home cooks, and chefs. Cast iron can handle any kitchen cooktop, oven, grill, and open flame. With a little bit of extra (and easy) care, your cast iron cookware can last for generations to come.

What is seasoning?
Seasoning is a layer of carbonized oil.

Seasoning is just oil baked onto the pan. That's it. This layer of oil gives cast iron cookware a natural, easy-release finish that gets better with every use.

We use 100% vegetable oil to season our cast iron cookware right in the foundry. The best way to maintain the seasoning on your pan is to use it. This builds up layers of baked on oil to improve the natural, easy-release surface.

3-Step Cast Iron Cleaning Method:

Wash your cast iron cookware by hand. You can use a small amount of soap. If needed, use a pan scraper for stuck on food. For stubborn, stuck-on food, simmer a little water for 3-5 minutes, then use the scraper after the pan has cooled. Our Seasoning Care Kit has everything you need to wash and care for cast iron the right way.

Dry promptly and thoroughly with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. If you notice a little black residue on your towel, it's just seasoning and is perfectly normal.

Rub a very light layer of cooking oil or Seasoning Spray onto the surface of your cookware. Use a paper towel to wipe the surface until no oil residue remains.
